On August 14, 2026, Isabella Figueroa, Jerry (Qing) Ji, and Nathan Lam presented at the Mentoring Summer Research Internship Program (MSRIP) Conference on their summer long research. On August 26th, 2026, Gabby Lemus presented her summer research at the Maximizing Access to Research Careers (MARC) Summer Research Symposium. On August 26th, 2026, Steven San Juan Rosales presented his summer research at the Summer Bridge Research Symposium.
Isabella investigated how varying the rotation speed of the electrospinning machine's collector mandrel controls fiber alignment in the electrospun scaffolds with a co-polymer blend of polycaprolactone (PCL) and polyethylene oxide (PEO). Jerry tested whether biomechanical decline is gradual or threshold-driven by characterizing the mechanical behavior of the tricuspid anterior leaflet under progressive GAG degradation. Nathan examined real-time pSFDI to a chicken foot third digit (an anatomical model of the human flexor system) under cyclic loading to visualize fiber realignment in a simulated crimp grip.
Gabby conducted research on the "Investigation of the Effect of Temperature on Blood Flow Velocity Profiles in an Idealized Saccular Cerebral Aneurysm via an In-Vitro PIV Flow Loop" where she compared the velocity profiles of along a body temperature gradient. Steven investigated the "In Silico Study of Flow Diverter Geometry Effects on the Hemodynamics within an Idealized Cerebral Aneurysm Model" where he observed the differences in blood velocity across flow diverter geometries in cerebral aneurysms.
We are proud of all their accomplishments and hard work, and look forward to seeing them grow as researchers.
